Joni

Eighth notes beading along on my raincoat
The weather was wrong on the news
But I never used what anyone gives me

Progress, I finally threw out her sundress
Maybe I’ll soon fall asleep without counting sheep
Till I need a fence to hold them

Joni could you find it in your heart
To come and show me how to love again

The beat years, you used to come over for cheap beers
And parliament lights in the dark
Spin "Court and Spark" and ash in the hallway
You told me you feel like you don't even know me
But Joni I never gave up
I just grew up faster than I ever wanted

Joni could you find it in your heart
To come and show me how to love again
Joni could you find it in your heart
To come and show me how to love again

Patience in the lines you see
Leave a little room to breathe
I remember what you taught me
But I don’t remember seeing you go
And I don’t think it’s time I need
Just a little company
Some vinyl crackling on the edge of the side
Strangers brushing in the morning light
Yeah I’m just trying to find the missing piece of my life
Could you help me find it?

Joni could you find it in your heart
To come and show me how to love again
Joni could you find it in your heart
To come and show me how to love again

Southwest Brooklyn

I’ve been staying up all night
Counting all the water towers
Dancing off the light
You, I met you on the train
And then you kissed me on my fire escape
In the pouring rain

So call me when you’re ready to live inside my head
Take me to your neighborhood and
Show me all the secrets that you told me in my bed
Southwest Brooklyn, so good looking
Even had a sleeve of tattoos
You’re so Brooklyn that
I could fall in love with you

And maybe I could take you to a matinee
Manhattan on a Saturday
Watch the sun come down on Rockaway
While we talk about how the city is changing
There’s a cozy little bar I want to to take you to
On ninth street and fifth avenue
I’d introduce you to the pinball boys
I️ know they’re going to love you too

So baby won’t you lay with me
And live inside my head
I’ll call your favorite restaurant and
Order in some dinner so we never leave the bed

Southwest Brooklyn, so good looking
Even had a sleeve of tattoos
You’re so Brooklyn that
I could fall in love with you

Miss you and Me

She’s got a baby on the way
She’s got a baby on the way
Now there’s something that I never thought I’d say
She’s got a baby on the way

I hope it don’t change the way we are
I’m scared it’s gonna change the way we are
You know I like us a whole lot so far
I hope it don’t change the way we are

Something in my heart feels new
It’s harder to be far away from you
And I can’t wait until two turns to three
But I’m still gonna miss you and me
Yea I’m still gonna miss you and me

I’m not one to think before I say
And sometimes I drink the whole damn day
Yea I guess it’s time to put that part away
Because she’s got a baby on the way

Something in my heart feels new
It’s harder to be far away from you
And I can’t wait until two turns to three
But I’m still gonna miss you and me
Yea I’m still gonna miss you and me

Take Care New York

Staring down the tunnel babe just praying for a train
You hit a point, you head upstairs, and you run right through the rain
Baby leave the courtyard window open just a crack
Have them pile up my mail in the hallway till I’m back

Take care New York I’ll see you soon
I need to go upstate and see the moon
Hudson River breeze blowing May right into June
Take care New York I'll see you soon

And all that running around never gets you any far
And it's hard to put that bottle down when they never close the bar
Yea she’ll rope you in just finding roses in the snow
But it’ll break you bleeding heart the way she’ll never let you grow

So take care New York I’ll see you soon
I need to go upstate and see the moon
Hudson River breeze blowing May right into June
Take care New York
Take care New York I'll see you soon

And all this time I thought I couldn’t leave you
You’re beautiful but I’m beaten down
And there comes a day when every man must choose
How long he can beg before he’s broken
Well I borrowed some and I stole the rest
And now it seems there’s nothing left to do
Oh there’s nothing left to do

In my mind it feels like quitting but my heart it feels alive
When I️ watch that city skyline fade behind me as I drive
So boys keep on going give it everything you got
As for me I think it’s time that I give slowing down a shot

So take care New York I’ll see you soon
I need to go upstate and see the moon
That Hudson River breeze blowing May right into June
Take care New York
Take care New York
Take care New York I'll see you soon

Better off with You

Never learned to live alone
Things they moved just a little too quick with you
And now we're older
And I ain’t down on the way it went
But I don't know how to live it alone

Never been out on the road
Yea I guess I fell just a little too in love with you
And now we’re older
And I ain’t down on the road I chose
But I don’t know how to travel alone

And all them stolen kisses dancing in the dunes
Flat tires shadows by the fire in the moon
But a lover I don’t know ain’t a lover I can lose
So that’s ok I’m better off with you
Darling that’s ok I’m better off with you

And there’s a little bit of life you lose
Just to make sure you never have to cry alone
And on a bad day when the green grass is calling
You can’t remember how to live it alone

And all them stolen kisses dancing in the dunes
Flat tires shadows by the fire in the moon
But a lover I don’t know ain’t a lover I can lose
So that’s ok I’m better off with you
Darling that’s ok I’m better off with you

Even if I wanted to find a way to get lost in the darkness
You’d find a way to shine light upon my road
All the beautiful people
So much other love we could fall into
You’d find a way to shine light upon my road

Owl Farm

I’m a sad eyed ferry on the side of the road
With August rolling by
Have you heard of Owl Farm
Could you bring me in your car
It won't take long

Oh sweet girl how they sing to me
The pinball lullabies
Have you heard of Owl Farm
Could you bring me in your car
It won't take long

Let’s count the stars they’re few and far between
I need to feel the hunger of the scene

Shift drink crowding out the edge bar
young love locking eyes
Have you heard of Owl Farm
Could you bring me in your car
It won't take long

Let’s count the stars they’re few and far between
I need to feel the hunger of the scene

Shift drink crowding out the edge bar
young love locking eyes
Have you heard of Owl Farm
Could you bring me in your car
It won't take long

Only One

There’s nothing more beautiful than everything in its place
Shelves lined with Dramamine and toothpaste
And the stock boy smiles because the day is done
He can go home to his one and only
His only one

And nothing feels better than just tearing off the tape
Brushes touching up the molding by the staircase
And the painter smiles the first coat is done
He can go home to his one and only
His only one

There ain’t a lighthouse you could find
Or any highway exit sign
Shining brighter than the one that gets me home
Shining brighter than the one that gets me home

The mover claps his hands as the final wall is bare
And the echo hit his eardrums like a fanfare
Then he cracks a smile because the job is done
He can go home to his one and only
His only one

Lilacs and daffodils and stripes of fresh cut grass
All for the hundred dollar bill under the doormat
And the gardener smiles the big house is done
He can get home to his one and only
His only one

There ain’t a lighthouse you could find
Or any highway exit sign
Shining brighter than the one that gets me home
Shining brighter than the one that gets me home

My strings feel looser on the last song of the night
As I sing my final lyrics to the spotlight
I can’t help but smile when the show is done
Because I can go home to my one and only
My only one
Yeah I can get home to my one and only
My only one

There's a Light

There’s a light
And it shines in my window at night
And it’s bright
And I just can’t shut it off
No matter how hard I try
Last June on a cool afternoon
I climbed to the top of the pole with a pushbroom
And just kept hitting that light
But couldn't even put a crack in the bulb and

Maybe I'm too scared to leave it alone
Or too damn tired from it keeping me up
But I’m starting to think I should let it just
Shine on through night
After all it’s just a light

And there’s a river
And it’s running on the property line
And it’s mine
And I just can’t slow it down
No matter how hard I try
Last July with a storm in the sky
I built me a damn out of driftwood and rail ties
And just kept piling them high
But the current so strong it kept rushing along and

Maybe I'm too scared to leave it alone
Or too damn tired from it keeping me up
But I'm starting to think I should learn to just take what it’s gonna give
After all it’s just a river

So don’t go breaking your own heart just leave it be
I found a light and the light found me
And when the days become too dark to even see
I close my eyes and the light finds me

And there's a clock
And it’s a tick tick ticking along
Like a song
And I just can’t fall asleep
No matter how hard I try
On a hot August night I woke in a sweat
I ripped out the batteries I’ll never forget
Because the clock kept ticking along
Was I caught in a dream all along

And maybe I'm too scared to leave it alone
And too damn tired from it keeping me up
But I’m starting to think I should let it just spin right till it stops
After all it’s just a clock
