Cell Phones Have RUINED Spontaneous Water Fights
Posted by: Dan Mills on 06.14.10 Now let's get one thing straight right off the bat. I love my cell phone. Some would even go as far as saying that i need to cool it with the phone. However, I am by no means oblivious to the many negative aspects of cell phone living: inappropriate rings at funerals, driving and texting, ball cancer… I get it. However, there is a bigger issue here. One that seriously makes me question owning a cell phone. If you haven't guessed by the title of this blog, it's spontaneous water fights.
Now this may not seem as big of deal to you then the stuff i listed above, but I happen to love water fights. Those of you who know me more personally know this already, and also know that I am a great water fighter. The reason I am so good at water fights is because I am an aquatic warrior who follows the golden rule: Thou shall constantly create alliances and then turn on those who trust you and drench them without mercy. However in recent summers, whenever I even approach someone with a bucket, hose, balloon what have you… people constantly bitch out by raising their phones in the air and saying something stupid like "mm mm mister… my phone".
Fuck that…Once upon a time you could go up to pretty much anyone standing by a pool or on a dock, and forcefully push them straight into the water… Now-a-days, you are at constant risk of destroying a very expensive device, and even worse… being the "bad guy".
Well i say, NO MORE. From now on, the bad guy is the guy who has his phone in his pocket in any situation that could potentially turn into a water fight…the beach, pool parties, car washes at Hooters… all of these situations have the potential energy to turn into one of the greatest days of your upcoming summer. But unless we all make an oath right now to leave our phones in a safe dry place, these great days will be boring, monotonous...They well be a disaster.
Now I realize that if we all adopt this policy, no doubt a few innocent phones will be destroyed… I'm ok with that. as long as its not my phone.. so basically, in a nutshell… if I want to drench you with water, I'm gonna do it regardless of phone in your pocket. But if you do it to me I will seriously be upset, and probably make you buy me a new phone.
oh by the way, we have a show on thursday.
dan REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 1 ) Beatles Rockband Posted by: Dan on 09.10.09 ok... so for those of you haven't heard, they just released Beatles Rockband, and it looks heady and amazing. The game is just like Rockband but only has Beatles songs. For those of you who don't know what Rockband is, or Guitar Hero for that matter, you better be Amish or over 50. It's pretty much the video game jump off right now. to learn more you can test it out at Best Buy, as long as your willing to wait in line with all the other 12 year old kids who have nothing else to do on a thursday at 3. So anyways, I'm really excited! although I don't own a gaming console, Rockband, or have the money to go out and buy one... I think its going to be great for the youth of the nation (P.O.D). I really think a Beatles video game is a great way to get through to all the little kids out there who don't realize that not knowing the Beatles is a shame. It's also another great reason ( in the case they ran out) for college kids to get high and not do their homework ... I love the Beatles! we play a Beatles cover at EVERY show, I reference them all the time for ideas and inspiration. Every time I listen to a Beatles album from start to finish, I want to quit music and start doing data entry because the job is already done. they did it. Sort of related, I just watched the Black Eyed Peas perform one of my favorite summer jams, "tonight's gonna be a good night" on NBC for the NFL kickoff. although I do sincerely love that song, their autotuned karaoke concert was pretty lame. sad even. This Beatles Rockband thing is gonna do great things. I really urge parents to buy it for their kids... And let's all cross our fingers and hope they make a Hall and Oats Rockband next... -dan REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 3 ) 2 top 5's Posted by: Dan on 08.29.09 So I'm starting to pack up my shit here in Wakefield, getting ready for the big move back... thought I'd pause and do a little top 5 blog about NYC and RI... hope you enjoy.
Top 5 things I'm looking forward to about new york.
5. Shopping... as much as I hate to say it... every now and then a Saturday morning downtown stroll for new sneakers/jackets is euphoric. Sorry Buddy Cianci, but the Providence Place Mall ain't cutting it. 4. The Fall... hands down my favorite season in the city. I don't sweat, I don't feeze, and I don't sneeze. , I'm glad to be coming back to it. 3. No Last Call... bars here in Rhody close at 1, rarely in NY do I outlast the bars. And when i do, even better. 2. Crazy people... Being in RI, I haven't seen as many crazy people as I normally like to... I'm excited to get back on mass transit and be freaked out a little bit. NUMBER1...the Band... Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Can't WAIT to be back in the same state as my band. We're gonna trash hotel rooms, go through a dark period, and maybe breakup and get back together. it's gonna be glorious
Top 5 things I'm going to miss about RI
5. Seafood... although I do miss good Japanese and Thai food, I know come November I'll be craving lobsters, littlenecks, and clamcakes. RI found a way to fry everything that comes out the ocean, and I'm down with that. 4. Normal Prices... I've gotten pretty accustomed to Fash Cash 40's....it's really gonna hurt to leave it. 3. Family... For the first time since I left high school, I've gotten to see my family a lot. My mom has an endless supply of Klondike Bars, and it's awesome. 2. Driving... When I want to go somewhere in RI, I drive there. I don't worry about parking, or traffic... don't ever take that for granted. NUMBER 1... The Beach...I spent probably 6 days a week on the beach. my tan, boogie boarding, Del's lemonade, lost kid announcements, books, sitting in the lifeguard chair when the beach closes, old men in speedos.... it's all over. whammy.
so that's it! back to packing
REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 2 ) My New Tele Posted by: Dan on 08.26.09 SO, i got a new guitar... and it needs a name. Here's some info about the guitar that might help the process.. TYPE: Fender Telecaster 03 American Ash Series COLOR: Honey Blonde (sort of a pale pukey yellow... very understated) HOW I GOT IT: Craigs-list trade... WHY I LOVE CRAIGSLIST: missed connections, curb alerts, and people putting a want ad something outrageous like a free computers. THINGS I DO TO THE GUITAR BESIDES PLAY IT:wipe it with a diaper, dress up like bruce springsteen and practice my stage moves so that's all the info... whoever picks the winning name gets to tattoo said name on my body in a location of their choice. just kidding... winner will be on the guestlist for the next show they attend which means, free entry, and tons of socializing with Adam Podd. good luck! Posted by: Dan on 07.23.09 Show tonight at watch hill park moved from 6, to 8:30... and will now be in the upriver cafe in downtown westerly! hope to see you there, dan REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 2 ) What a Week Posted by: Dan on 07.19.09 So i just gotta back to RI last night from a great great week... and i thought i'd give you as speedy run down of how things went. Tuesday, Ithaca: got a sweet hotel room, had a steak from the venue, played a righteous show in which a hippie with extremely dilated pupils grooved 3 feet in front of me all the while showcasing his dance move which is time pantomiming pot smoking, woke up the next day and shopped for a telecaster, but didn't see one i liked... Wednesday, Rochester: drove through Interlaken, NY where we tracked most of "Fiction in Photographs. Got out and took nostalgic pictures. Got Leroi, NY near Rochester where i was staying on my friend's/old college roomate's family farm. Met his dog who is crazy and was wearing a dome. Shopped for guitars all afternoon but didn't find the right one.. Played a GREAT show at a coffeehouse, made a lot of new fans and sold some t shirts. Went bar hopping then ate a garbage plate (see link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Tahou_Hots). HEaded back to the farm for bed. Thursday, Albany to Vermont: Drove to Albany for the day off. Hung with another one of best friends/old roommate from college. Ate an amazing turkey club at a diner. Guitar shopped and found one i REALLY liked but wasn't perfect... Got caught up in Albany and left at 8:30 for VT. Scariest drive ever. So dark, foggy, and scary movie liked. talked on the phone as much as possible so I wouldn't have to come to grips with being a little bit afraid of the dark. made it there to finally meet up with Adam (piano). WAtch religouslous and loved it. Friday, Vermont/Canada?: Friday was spent mostly sound checking and playing at the Haskell Opera House. Scholl arrived from brooklyn at the EXACT SAME TIME that we arrived there. you can't write that kind of stuff. It's a super old BEAUTIFUL venue which is the only venue in the world that lies on the border of two countries. The stage was in Canada, so technically I'm an international superstar. Show was a pleasure. First time playing in a room that actually plays with you as an instrument. Went home to Adam's Grandfather's and had a Camper party. Slept in a tent. very righteous. Saturday Vermont/Home: Woke up at 11am. Realized now that it was light that we were staying at a beautiful 85 acre ranch complete with horses and high power motorized man toys.. got to operate an Excavator. drove ATV's until i was drenched in mud, and also rode on the Mule which is pretty much a cross between and ATV and a golf cart. Decided living in the sticks could've been a nice way to grow up. Left VT at 2 to drive home to beautiful Wakefield, RI... got some Ice Cream and sat on Monahan's Dock to admire the stars by the beach. that's it.. not its 10am and i am going to go sit on the beach all day and think about how glad I am that i don't have to drive today. later alligators REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 0 ) so you think you can dance? Posted by: Dan on 07.9.09 "So you think you can dance?" is a show i just saw last night for the first time. Let me tell you something right now... WOW. I kept trying to look away but just couldn't. Maybe it was the tango, or maybe just the middle judge being the most hatable person on the planet... either way, "So you think you can dance", two thumbs up from this sensitive songwriter. this last week or so has been good.... lots of beach, cookouts, fish, chowder, ice cream etc... but it's time to start playing again. tonight I'm headed for an acoustic set at The Wheelhouse, followed by a private party tomorrow and Boston on Saturday! Next week is Ithaca, Rochester, and Vermont.... Be sure to check the schedule to see if I'm coming to a venue near you. Other exciting news I wrote a new song this week... so since recording it is not really on the horizon, it's more the reason to come out to the shows. ALSO... some dates have changed on the calendar (NYC and RI)...make sure to check. REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 1 ) June.. what a let down Posted by: dan on 06.24.09 so June is totally blowing it by being the greyest, worst excuse for a month i EVER seen. i left brooklyn for the summer to enjoy the beaches all around southern RI and thus far, I have put on my bathing suit once. In other news, I am headed to a family reunion this afternoon which could be a good time. Either way it will be ton of cookout food which is always a plus. also. Dunkin' Dark roast iced coffee where have you been all my life? REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 1 ) Back in Brooklyn Posted by: Dan on 06.20.09 Well, it's great to be back in brooklyn, were everything is twice as expensive and even breakfast is a fashion show. Hanging out t my friend Joey's apartment watching some Saturday television, kicking back before our show tonight at Arlene's Grocery on the Lower East Side.... Last night we played at Black Eyes Sally's in Hartford CT. Thanks so much to all our fans who came out to support! and also a HUGE thanks to Bronze Radio Return for having us open up. They released their CD last night (which is great).. they played an amazing show. Black Eyed Sally's also i a choice venue. Their bathroom was very clean, and they gave all of us a free delicious dinner of our choice! I had Honey Glazed BBQ chicken which was BOSS. We drove back late last night an listened to T Pain and Europe 72' (graeful dead)... those two should really think about collaboration, or as some call it "a collab"... that would be something i could REALLY get in to.. anyways, now i need get back to "Amelia Earhart: What happened?"... as you can infer, it's an extremely informational program answering the question that has been on all of our mind for years... my guess? she's in the ocean... REPLY TO THIS POST / VIEW REPLIES ( 2 ) playing shows again and LOVING it Posted by: Dan on 06.19.09 So i forgot about it for a long time... but playing shows is a great time! this week i trekked up to Ithaca NY to play at the Mahogany Grill. Went up with a few friends and made a nice little trip of it... saw some waterfalls, ate at some of my old favorite restuarants, and even had a hotel pool party. The hotel pool party consisted of games such as : make a whilrpool, running race in the pool, jumping contest, and chicken fight... SO, the Mahogany Grill by the way named a SANDWICH after me. it's called the Dan Mills Dirty Bird, and its redonkulously delicious. Anything tastes better when it has your name in it. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT hahaha. never worked better for this. The show was a great time too. Lots of old friends stopped by, played a lot of new NEW songs, and old OLD songs.. Ithaca Brewery was doing a tasting and all the beers tasted RIGHTEOUS. Cascazilla... once it touches your lips! ANYWAYS ONWARD... last night we played at the Wheelhouse Tavern and it was righteous. Adam and Matt came up from the city for the show, and we played a very upbeat 45 minute set.. we opened up for the Ryan Montbleau Band... and they were as always incredible. Please go check them out if you get the time, I'm sure you will like it. so, we are hanging out now in Wakefield, getting ready to go to Hartford for a show tonight at Black Eyed Sally's... that's it! ill update after hartford.. oh yeah.. anyone liking the new album? haven't heard a DROP back here at myspace WTF mates?
